(Patria) - The Chief Prosecutor of the Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts, Serge Brammertz, met today in Sarajevo with representatives of victims' associations of war crimes. The main topic of the meeting was the issue of transitional justice and confronting the past.
Representatives of the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves and the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide attended the meeting.
Special attention was paid at the meeting to the issue of the archives and documentation of the Hague Tribunal, as well as the preservation of its legal and historical legacy, which is of key importance for the process of confronting the war past.
After the meeting, Brammertz addressed the media, stating that the Mechanism's mandate is expiring soon.
"As you know, the Mechanism's mandate expires in June, and I will be at a meeting in the Security Council where we will discuss the continuation of the Mechanism's work. There is a need for the Mechanism to assist in the work of prosecutor's offices in the region," said Brammertz.
Munira Subašić, president of the Association of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa, said after the meeting that she had never been more satisfied with a meeting with Brammertz.
"Thank you for advocating for the victims of genocide. He will come again soon. We presented three things. The first thing we emphasized is the archive. What will happen to the building that must be protected!?

Second, the release of a criminal convicted of genocide, to life imprisonment, is unacceptable. He must remain in prison. When he dies, his children will have a grave to visit. What about the mothers who are still searching for the bones of their children!? Third, we are not satisfied with the Prosecutor's Office. This last prosecutor is a great manipulator, and the Prosecutor's Office has turned into politics," said Subašić.
Another special topic of the meeting was the issue of genocide denial and other war crimes, emphasizing the importance of continuing the fight against revisionism and preserving established judicial facts through the work of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts.
