Victims' Associations: Building a Monument to Sekula Stanić, a Fictional Hero from Foča, Would Be a Continuation of Shame and Humiliation

(Patria) - Following the announcement of the construction of a monument to Sekula Stanić from Foča, a person who exists as a hero only in the film: “Pretty Village, Pretty Flame”, we call on the initiators, as well as all future initiators, to before they start reopening war wounds, ask or at least read something that has been established by courts, something that has been recorded in numerous publications of surviving victims, and only then publicly announce the idea they wish to realize, it was stated by the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the association "Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves".

"The awarding of recognition to Nevenka Tromp, a person who, in her scientific research work within the Institute for War Crimes of the Netherlands, claims that: 'There is not a single piece of evidence indicating that Serbia in any way participated in the events in and around Srebrenica in the period from July 9 to 19, 1995', is perhaps the most blatant example of our self-humiliation or brutal ignorance.

The construction of a monument to Sekula Stanić, a fictional hero from Foča, would be a continuation of shame and humiliation, therefore we call on the initiators to abandon the idea of building a monument, and to direct their capacity, professional and political, towards improving the status of victims and witnesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina", the statement reads.

Incidentally, SDP councilor Dragan Stevanović announced that he would initiate a proposal in the City Council to erect a bust of the Foča doctor, pre-war and wartime director of the Foča hospital, Dr. Sekula Stanić, in Sarajevo's Alipašina Street.
