POTOČARI, (Patria) - Participants of memorial marches began arriving at the Potočari Memorial Center during the day. An emotional moment was when ultramarathon runners from Vukovar, who had traveled 227 kilometers since Saturday, ran into Potočari. Marathon runners from Goražde and Bihać also arrived in Potočari, cyclists from Sarajevo are on their way, as well as about 500 participants of the Moto Marathon from all over Europe.
US Ambassador Eric Nelson also arrived in Potočari, and he visited all the coffins in the former battery factory and paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide who will be buried tomorrow on the 24th anniversary of the genocide.
Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović is also in Potočari today and will join part of the final leg of the Peace March, which ends tonight in Potočari. Participants are covering a distance of over 90 km, following the original route from 1995 across Kameničko brdo, where thousands of Srebrenica residents perished while trying to reach the free territory.
Džaferović told the media that on the eve of the 24th anniversary of the genocide, the most painful thing is that not all victims have been found yet and that genocide is being denied and even glorified.
"What Bosnia and Herzegovina needs most at this moment is a law prohibiting the denial of genocide, the glorification of criminals, the awarding of decorations, and naming schools after them. Although we have tried to pass this law many times before, we will continue to do so. We will never give up until we achieve this result. Because, it is the least we can do for the victims of the genocide," Džaferović emphasized.
