World Diabetes Day Marked in ZDK

(Patria) - On the occasion of November 14, World Diabetes Day, a two-hour program titled "Coffee with MPs: The Diabetes Epidemic – List of Orthopedic Aids" was organized today by the Association of Children and Youth with Diabetes in the Zenica-Doboj Canton in the hall of the ZDK Assembly.

-The goal of our Association is the systemic improvement of the status, future and health of our children, and accordingly we act by cooperating with experts in the field of endocrinology, advocating with decision-makers and raising public awareness of the presence of this problem in our community.

On this day and in this way, with the help of doctors from the Internal Medicine Department - Endocrinology of the Cantonal Hospital Zenica, we wanted to bring closer to the members of the legislative and executive authorities the issue of introducing new technologies to the List of Orthopedic Aids in the Zenica-Doboj Canton - stated Siniša Lukić, a member of the Association and parent of a child with diabetes.

The present members of the Association, which has about 130 patients in its records, pointed out in their addresses that they expect the authorities to make aids such as insulin pumps and sensors for continuous glucose monitoring (CGMS systems) available to all patients with Type 1 diabetes, without age discrimination from the age of 26.

- Some initiatives have been submitted but they are not specific enough, and I appeal to all present to make efforts to obtain concrete and accurate data so that we know how much money is needed so that all persons with Type 1 diabetes in our canton have equal rights. I am sure that this composition of the Government and the deputies in the Assembly of the Zenica-Doboj Canton are ready to solve this problem faced by an increasing number of children and their parents - said, among other things, Adnan Šabani, Minister of Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.

As part of the World Diabetes Day observance, an info desk was set up in the building of the institutions of the Zenica-Doboj Canton where blood sugar and blood pressure measurements were organized.
