Kidney and cornea transplants successfully performed at UKC Tuzla

(Patria) - The transplant team of the University Clinical Center Tuzla successfully performed a kidney and two cornea transplants.

The management of the University Clinical Center Tuzla expresses immense gratitude to the family that gave their consent for organ donation, as well as to the entire multidisciplinary team of this institution that participated in the explantation and transplantation of organs, according to UKC Tuzla.

- Transplant medicine is one of the priority projects at the University Clinical Center Tuzla. This month marks exactly 25 years since the first kidney transplant performed at UKC Tuzla.

Today, our institution performs related, cadaveric, and spousal kidney transplants. We are leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the number of kidney, liver, and cornea transplants performed, and the transplant project is of exceptional importance to us, because in addition to offering patients a new chance at life, we are working on improving and developing transplant, as well as all other medical procedures - said the director of JZU UKC Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Med. Sci. Šekib Umihanić, who on this occasion thanked the donor family who, in the most difficult moments, found the strength and gave consent for organ donation.

He also expressed gratitude to all employees who contributed to the organization and implementation of organ transplantation.

At the University Clinical Center Tuzla, along with the multidisciplinary team of doctors for explantation and transplantation from the Clinic for Urology, the Clinic for Eye Diseases, and the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, expert teams from the Polyclinic for Transfusiology, the Polyclinic for Laboratory Diagnostics, the Hospital Pharmacy, and the Institute for Psychological and Social Protection also contributed to the performance of the mentioned transplants.

With cadaveric organ donation and a successfully performed transplant, the development of the organ transplant project at JZU UKC Tuzla has continued, and the possibility has been created to save lives and improve the quality of life for patients through organ transplantation.
