(Patria) - The Mayor of Tuzla, Zijad Lugavić, declared Friday, August 29, 2025, as a Day of Mourning in the city, on the occasion of the tragic death of police officer and fellow citizen Samir Mustafić.
The Day of Mourning will be marked by lowering flags to half-mast at the City Administration building and at the buildings of public institutions and enterprises. No cultural or entertainment programs will be held in public places, nor will music be broadcast in catering and other establishments, and the media are obliged to adjust their programming content to mark the day of mourning.
Mayor Lugavić extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and all citizens of Tuzla affected by the loss of Samir Mustafić, who lost his life honorably while performing his duty.
As is known, on March 27, Mustafić, along with three colleagues, entered the swollen Jala River in Tuzla during a police pursuit of a man they were supposed to arrest for committing several criminal offenses.
However, unlike two colleagues, Mustafić was swept away by the water current and drowned. An intensive operation was launched very quickly to find and rescue this police officer, as well as the fugitive.
The search for the brave police officer lasted until today when his lifeless body was found. The body of the fugitive who first entered the Jala River was found on April 16 this year.
