Memorial to tragically deceased police officer Samir Mustafić unveiled in Tuzla

(Patria) - A memorial to the tragically deceased police officer Samir Mustafić was unveiled today in the Bulevar neighborhood of Tuzla.

At the very spot where, a year ago, while performing his official duties, he risked his life and jumped into the swollen Jala river to save a man being carried away by the current.

His sacrifice is another confirmation that police officers very often put their lives on the line to protect the property and lives of citizens.



Sadness and tears in the eyes of his family and friends, as well as his work colleagues.

Samir Mustafić was a child of Srebrenica. His father was killed in the genocide. He grew up with that burden, but he carried it not as bitterness, but as strength.

- He grew into a man who did not turn away from the troubles of others. Into a man who chose to help, to protect, and to be a support for others.

We are proud to have had him, proud of who he was. And we are proud that his name will be remembered, not for the way he left us, but for the way he lived - said Samir's father-in-law Avdo Joldić to those present.

In addition to members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton, delegations from the Government and Assembly of TK, as well as the City of Tuzla, attended the unveiling of the memorial.

- Today, on the anniversary of Samir's death, we gathered with a sense of sadness but also pride to honor a brave young man who put his life and everything he had to protect other people and citizens - said the Director of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of TK, Elvir Mahmutović.



- With this monument that we will unveil today, we will actually permanently remember Samir himself and his sacrifice. But I would also like everyone to understand that behind the police uniform beat the hearts of people who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the common good, for all the citizens they protect, for whom they have taken an oath - said the Prime Minister of TK, Irfan Halilagić.

We remind you that Samir Mustafić's body was found after a months-long search in the Spreča riverbed, in the village of Miričina.

The memorial in the Bulevar neighborhood of Tuzla will permanently bear witness to the courage and dedication to duty of a police officer.
