Passport stolen from French consul in Split as well

As Slobodna Dalmacija unofficially learns from police circles, the number of thefts in the wider Split area has increased because the number of guests has also grown.

The statistics of the Croatian Tourist Board, namely, already confirm that this season will be the best in the last 20 years, and that it will most likely surpass even the pre-crisis 2008.

Gerard Denegri, the French consul in Split, was himself a victim of thieves on Sunday.

"I don't know what percentage it is, but I can say that there are many, many more thefts this year than last year. At first I was surprised how this summer foreigners, mostly young people, often come to the consulate and complain that they have been left without passports, personal documents and money, and then the same thing happened to me. They 'relieved' me at the entrance to the Podrumi. I assume it happened in the crowd at the entrance. They are professionals, like those in the metros in big cities. I read that they are Bulgarian women. Who knows? Anyway, they are certainly not ordinary thieves," Denegri said in one breath.
