102nd Anniversary of the Founding of the Republic of Turkey Marked in Sarajevo

(Patria) - A formal reception was held in Sarajevo today to mark Republic Day of Turkey and the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

The reception was hosted by the Turkish Embassy in BiH, represented by Ambassador Emin Akseki, and was attended by numerous guests from the public, political, religious, and cultural life of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a post on the X platform, the Embassy stated earlier today that on the 102nd anniversary, "with respect and gratitude, we commemorate the founder of our Republic, ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and all our martyrs, the brightest symbol of our struggle for independence".

"In the second century of our Republic, we emphasize that we will work decisively to strengthen ties in all fields with brotherly Bosnia and Herzegovina," the Embassy stated.

Ambassador Akseki, in his address to the attendees, expressed great respect and gratitude to the founder of the Republic, Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and all others who made it possible.

He emphasized that his country has played a constructive role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in its region and beyond over the past 100 years, including in BiH.



He also underlined that the relationship between Turkey and BiH is unique, shaped by centuries of shared history, culture, and mutual understanding.

Emphasizing unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of BiH, he particularly highlighted the commitment to strengthening close ties between the peoples of the two countries.

- In line with these principles, we remain committed to improving our bilateral cooperation in all areas - added Ambassador Akseki.

The national holiday - Republic Day in Turkey is celebrated on October 29th, commemorating the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923.

The Republic was proclaimed by the commander Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who was then elected by the Grand National Assembly as the first president of modern Turkey.
