
(Patria) - The Prijedor City Emergency Situations Headquarters has declared the first degree of flood defense preparedness due to the rapid rise in the water levels of flash floods, it was announced from the City Administration.
"Considering that heavy rainfall continues in the Sana river basin, there is a possibility of further deterioration of the hydrological situation and floods," the statement said.
Relevant services have been ordered to prepare sufficient quantities of sandbags, as well as to engage the necessary machinery for timely interventions at critical points, with the aim of preventing surface water from entering residential and other buildings.
The Prijedor Territorial Fire and Rescue Unit will be engaged in pumping water from endangered facilities, especially in cases of water entering basements and living quarters.
"Vodovod" (Waterworks) and the Health Center are tasked with increasing the control of the hygienic quality of drinking water.
The water level of the Sana river rose from 228 to 305 centimeters from last night at 10 PM to this morning at 8 AM, and the first flood defense level is 420 centimeters, while Gomjenica rose from 307 centimeters to 422 centimeters in the same period.
