Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marked in Potočari

(Patria) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center today dignifiedy marked March 1st, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, recalling the historic decision of citizens made in the 1992 referendum, which confirmed the sovereignty and independence of the state of BiH.



The commemoration was held in a space that serves as a permanent reminder and place of conscience, a place where the idea of an independent and internationally recognized Bosnia and Herzegovina was brutally attacked, and its defense was paid for at the highest price.

The commemoration was attended by the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, who addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of preserving the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the significance of institutional care for the culture of remembrance.



The attendees were also joined by the Vice-President of the RS entity, Ćamil Duraković, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Associations of mothers from Srebrenica and representatives of humanitarian organizations MFS-EMMAUS and Dobro.ba also attended, further confirming the shared commitment to preserving the truth and dignity of the victims.

The program concluded with the laying of flowers and paying tribute to the victims of genocide, with the message that the culture of remembrance is the foundation of a responsible future.



The Srebrenica Memorial Center remains an institution that defends the truth about genocide and nurtures the values upon which independent Bosnia and Herzegovina is built.
