Organised by CPI: Stanford students visit Vukovar, learn about the Ordinary Heroes project

Students from Stanford University (USA) are visiting Vukovar today, and they were presented with the work of the Sarajevo-based Centre for Post-Conflict Research and their project Ordinary Heroes, which is also the organiser, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

This group includes 35 students from the Master's programme from around the world, and besides Croatia, they will also visit Serbia. This visit was realised with the help of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia.

The students were addressed by Velma Šarić, project manager of the Centre, who held a brief discussion with the students about the reconciliation process in BiH, after which they viewed the photo exhibition "Rescuers". The American students were presented with the work of the Centre and its projects so far.

Incidentally, over the past more than four years, the Centre for Post-Conflict Research has brought around 1,500 young people from around the world who have visited sites of war crimes, genocide sites and mass graves in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this way, the truth about the events during the aggression against BiH is preserved and spread.

The "Ordinary Heroes" project is the first project of the Centre for Post-Conflict Research funded by the State Department in 2010. It deals with the specific topic of moral courage and rescue. It speaks about people, ordinary people who, during times of war, genocide and conflict, stood up and showed moral courage and saved another person, Šarić previously told NAP.

CPI is focused on working in local communities in BiH and the region, primarily with young people, fostering an environment of sustainable peace and facilitating the restoration of inter-ethnic relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkans using creative multimedia projects and programmes that help strengthen tolerance, moral courage, mutual understanding and positive change.

The students also visited the hospital in Vukovar and held workshops.
