As part of a professional seminar: 13 patients successfully operated on at the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics

(Patria) - At the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), as part of the second professional seminar on minimally invasive urogynecological surgeries, 13 patients were successfully operated on.

The majority of surgical procedures were performed by the expert team of the Gynecology Clinic KCUS, under the supervision of Dr. Senad Habibović, Head of the Clinic for Gynecology at St. Elisabeth Hospital in Mayen (Germany), a specialist in gynecology, urogenital surgery, and minimally invasive surgery, who performed the most complex operations.

Minimally invasive techniques represent a modern trend in surgery worldwide, as they allow for micro-incisions, less pain, a lower risk of complications, and faster postoperative recovery.

This is the first time such a surgical approach has been applied at the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics KCUS, representing a significant step forward in the treatment of urogynecological diseases.

- Old surgical methods must be replaced with modern, minimally invasive techniques wherever possible. Small meshes are used to fix the bladder or uterus to the abdominal wall.

The procedure is performed without large incisions, which reduces the possibility of complications. Naturally, the uterus is fixed forward, but with age and various influences, these connections weaken. With our approach, we create a new connection that stabilizes the uterus - explained Dr. Habibović.

Prim. doc. dr. sci. med. Naima Imširija-Galijašević, Head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics KCUS, emphasized that thanks to the professional cooperation with Dr. Habibović, the engagement of doctors and medical staff, and the unconditional support of the management, KCUS is becoming one of the leading institutions in BiH in the application of minimally invasive procedures in the treatment of stress incontinence.

- Dr. Habibović is an internationally recognized expert, and we had the privilege of learning directly from him during several visits to our clinic. As part of this professional seminar, we jointly performed combined vaginal and laparoscopic surgeries that significantly contribute to women's health.

In addition, for the first time, we performed a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, indicated for severe pathological conditions of the uterus, heavy bleeding, and chronic pelvic pain.

The procedures we are currently performing are shorter, less invasive, almost painless, and patients recover faster and stay in the hospital for a shorter period - stated doc. dr. Imširija-Galijašević.

The General Director of KCUS, prim. doc. dr. sci. med. Alen Pilav, welcomed Dr. Habibović and the doctors who participated in this professional seminar and expressed satisfaction with this successful cooperation.

- KCUS has opened its doors for continuous education and professional development, with a special emphasis on introducing modern methods in the diagnosis and treatment of the most severe diseases - emphasized Pilav.
