(Patria) - In the "Dobrnja Jug" Mine shaft in Mramor, a few hours after midnight on August 26, 1990, a terrible explosion occurred, the cause of which has not been fully clarified to this day.
In that biggest mining accident ever recorded in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 180 miners of the third shift, with an average age of 27, died. The deceased left behind 365 children.
The only one of the 181 miners who descended into the shaft that fateful evening managed to survive, Smajl Imamović, who suffered severe injuries at the time.
The citizens of Tuzla and surrounding areas showed their grief and compassion at their farewell, the largest Tuzla had ever seen.
In memory of this mining and human tragedy, every year at the Kreka Mines, with the presence of representatives of the local authorities, tribute is paid to the fallen miners, with the hope that a similar tragedy will never happen again.
