KS Day of Mourning in memory of 1,601 children killed in besieged Sarajevo

(Patria) - Today is a Day of Mourning in KS.

In 2023, the Government of Sarajevo Canton (KS) declared May 5th - the Day of Remembrance of the Murdered Children of Sarajevo - a Day of Mourning in KS, with the aim of permanently preserving the memory of the 1,601 children killed during the siege of Sarajevo from 1992 to 1995.

On this day, flags will be flown at half-mast on the buildings of KS institutions, as well as on the facilities of public enterprises and institutions.

Media are recommended to adjust their programming to mark the Day of Mourning, avoiding the broadcast of entertainment content.

KS calls on all citizens to remember with due respect and reverence the youngest fellow citizens who were killed, to express solidarity with the families of the victims, and to contribute to the dignified commemoration of this day with their behavior.

The Assembly and Government of Sarajevo Canton, together with the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995, are organizing a laying of flowers on Tuesday, 05/05/2026 at 10:00 AM at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995.
