Registration of oldtimers begins in Sarajevo Canton, Halid Ćenanović gets plates for his 1993 Mercedes first

(Patria) - The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, through the Ilidža/Trnovo Civil Status Sector, today carried out the first registration of an oldtimer vehicle in Sarajevo Canton.

This is a Mercedes SL 300-24, manufactured in 1993, which undoubtedly has great material and cultural value, but even greater sentimental value for its owner, Halid Ćenanović.

As Ćenanović explained, he had been waiting for this moment for a long time. As a true enthusiast of oldtimer vehicles, he is also the proud owner of another Mercedes vehicle from 1982, which he drives several hundred kilometers a year despite being over 40 years old and also plans to register it soon.

- I am immensely grateful to the employees of the Ilidža/Trnovo Civil Status Sector who completed all the procedures and called me today to pick up my plates.

This procedure took a long time, and until now our oldtimers had so-called permanent plates, but only those older than 30 years, so the start of the registration process in our country means a lot to all oldtimer enthusiasts - said Ćenanović.



- The Civil Status and Legal Affairs Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton made maximum efforts to ensure all procedures were followed and that the registration of oldtimer vehicles successfully began in Sarajevo Canton, and I congratulate them on that.

I invite all owners of such vehicles to take advantage of the opportunity and register their four-wheeled companions, as this enables the improvement of the status of oldtimer vehicles and their permanent recognition as part of cultural heritage - said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica.

To register an oldtimer vehicle, it is necessary to first carry out a vehicle valuation procedure which includes an inspection of the technical documentation and the vehicle itself, determining the originality of parts and their condition, and scoring according to tables that cover age, technical category, and preservation.

According to Senada Hadžimehmedagić, Assistant Minister for Civil Status and Legal Affairs, these checks are carried out by the Oldtimer Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- The Civil Status Sectors initiate the registration process based on the Identification Document of each oldtimer, issued and certified by the Oldtimer Club in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with valid regulations.

The Identification Document includes a classification code indicating age, technical category, and preservation, and is valid from 2 to 10 years, depending on the number of points.

After obtaining the identification document, the vehicle can be permanently registered with oldtimer plates - explained Hadžimehmedagić.

Oldtimer plates contain the designation OT, and the first three numbers represent the year of manufacture of the vehicle. The first oldtimer plates issued in Sarajevo Canton bear the designation OT-993000.



An oldtimer vehicle to be registered must be at least 30 years old, and preserved or restored in accordance with the original manufacturer's specifications, respecting FIVA standards.

Oldtimer vehicles could not be registered until now due to unorganized and unharmonized legal regulations, but thanks to the Rulebook on the Procedure and Method of Registration of Oldtimer Vehicles, the Rulebook on Vehicle Registration, and the improvements made by the Agency for Identification Documents, Disseminated Information and Exchange of Data of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all obstacles have been overcome and conditions have been met for the first registration in Sarajevo Canton.

The Agency for Identification Documents, Disseminated Information and Exchange of Data of Bosnia and Herzegovina has harmonized the electronic vehicle registration system in a way that technically enables the personalization of license plates for oldtimer vehicles and the electronic submission of requests for personalization of oldtimer plates by the competent authority to the Agency.
