Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton today in memory of murdered children

(Patria) - Today is a Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton.

The Day of Remembrance for the murdered children of Sarajevo - May 5, by the Decision of the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, has been permanently declared a Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton, and on this day all public events of an entertainment nature are postponed.

The Assembly and Government of the Sarajevo Canton, together with the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995., are organizing a flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo this morning at 10:00 AM.

Among others, flowers at the Memorial will be laid by the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić.

The decision to declare May 5 as a Day of Mourning in the Sarajevo Canton was made on the initiative of the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Omer Osmanović, who emphasized that it is necessary for this date, as one of the most painful for the residents of this city, to be permanently marked as a Day of Mourning.

During the siege of Sarajevo from 1992 to 1995, the aggressor killed 1,601 children of this city.

Even 30 years after the end of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not filed a single indictment for the murder of the children of Sarajevo.
