98 new cases of coronavirus infection in Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - According to data from the Public Health Institute of KS, in the past 24 hours, 98 new cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Sarajevo Canton. This number is the result of an analysis conducted on 473 samples collected on December 30 and 31 last year.

Fifty-four infected individuals, or 55.10 percent, belong to family clusters or contacts of previously infected individuals and have been in self-isolation since before. At the same time, 126 people have recovered from COVID-19 infection, a figure that continues to confirm the positive trend, according to which a larger number of recovered individuals has been registered in our canton compared to the number of newly infected individuals.

144 people are hospitalized in the clinics and isolation ward of the University Clinical Center Sarajevo at Podhrastovi (88) and the General Hospital "Prof. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" (56). Of this number, five at UKCS and one patient at the General Hospital are using mechanical ventilator support for breathing.

Seven patients are on non-invasive ventilation. 21 people have been discharged from hospital treatment. Unfortunately, there were two deaths during treatment, so the number of deaths caused by coronavirus has increased to 383.
Currently, there are 1,200 active cases of coronavirus infection in Sarajevo Canton.

From January 30, 2020, to January 1, 2021, a total of 24,318 infected individuals have been registered, of whom 22,735 have recovered from the infectious disease Covid-19. In the period from December 18, 2020, to January 1, 2021, based on the recommendations of epidemiologists, orders for 1,348 self-isolations were issued by the inspection or the Ministry of Health of KS.

"In order to reduce the risk of Corona virus infection, in addition to wearing a mask correctly, it is very important to maintain physical distance, to wash and disinfect hands frequently and thoroughly, and to avoid touching eyes, mouth, and nose," the Public Health Institute of KS advises.
