Ceremonial Opening of the Church of the Blessed Drina Martyrs in Goražde Today

(Patria) - Goražde will host a significant religious event today - the ceremonial opening of the Church of the Blessed Drina Martyrs, which will be attended by more than 1,000 pilgrims from around the world.

On this occasion, meetings were held with representatives of all relevant institutions of the canton and the City Administration of Goražde, as well as with the parish priest of the Parish of St. Dominic in Goražde, Josip Tadić.

The aim of the meetings was to coordinate activities and security so that the event runs as smoothly as possible.

Tadić informed those present about the arrival of a large number of faithful and high-ranking church dignitaries, including bishops from the countries of origin of the Drina Martyrs.

He emphasized that such an important event requires joint effort and support from the entire community.

- The City Administration, in cooperation with the Canton Government, has placed all its resources at the service of organizing a great celebration for our city. At two meetings of the Organizing Committee, all activities were defined and the bearers of specific tasks and obligations were determined, both at the city and cantonal levels.

The second meeting served to review everything done so far and to agree on the remaining organizational details. Our goal is for this celebration to pass in the best possible order, as it is in the interest of all citizens of Goražde - said the assistant to the Mayor of Goražde, Sanid Zirak.

Let us recall, the Blessed Drina Martyrs - Sisters Jula, Krizina, Antonija, Bernadeta, and Berchmana - were killed in 1941 during World War II, and the Vatican officially declared them blessed on September 24, 2011, during a solemn mass at Zetra in Sarajevo.

Their suffering in Goražde is marked by a memorial that has become a significant pilgrimage site.

As part of the ceremonial opening program, a laying of flowers and paying of respects at the site of their suffering is planned.
