Number of unemployed growing in the Federation, decreasing in the RS

The situation on the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. the monthly „Statistical Review of the Labor Market Situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina as of 31.07.2015.“ is not promising, writes the Patria news agency.

- As of July 31, 2015, there were 542,936 persons registered with the employment services and agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed persons increased by 3,424 persons or 0.63%. Of the total number of persons seeking employment, 280,390 or 51.64% are women.

Unemployment increased in the Federation of BiH by 3,719 persons (0.96%), and decreased in the Republika Srpska by 161 persons (0.12%), and in the Brčko District of BiH by 134 persons (0.11%). In the structure of persons seeking employment, as of 31.07.2015, unskilled workers (NKV) number 144,813 or 26.67%, semi-skilled workers (PKV) 9,680 or 1.78%, skilled workers (KV) 184,234 or 33.93%, highly skilled workers (VKV) 3,043 or 0.56%, workers with lower secondary education (NSS) 1,516 or 0.28%, workers with secondary education (SSS) 148,396 or 27.33%, workers with higher education (VŠS) 7,527 or 1.39%, and workers with university education (VSS) 43,727 or 8.05%.

The largest share of registered unemployment consists of persons with the third level of education, skilled workers (KV) at 33.93%, and workers with secondary education (SSS) at 27.33%. In July, a total of 15,689 persons were removed from the employment service registers, and of that number, 9,337 persons were employed from the employment service registers. At the same time, 6,935 persons had their employment terminated, while employers reported needs for hiring 3,771 new workers during this period.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics of BiH, in June 2015, the number of employed persons in legal entities in BiH was 714,586, of which 295,312 were women. Compared to May 2015, the total number of employed persons in legal entities increased by 0.5%, and the number of employed women also increased by 0.5%. The registered unemployment rate for June 2015 was 43.0%, and compared to May 2015, it decreased by 0.1 percentage point.
