(Patria) - Work on the City Park "Zaim Imamović" in Goražde will begin on 19 February, in memory of the commander, hero of the defence of Goražde and Podrinje, and of the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This was announced on social media by his son, the mayor of Goražde, Ernest Imamović.
Zaim Imamović was born on 22 April 1961 in the village of Poratak near the Goražde settlement of Ilovača.
He took part in all battles for the defence of Goražde and was the creator of operations "Krug" and "Drina", during which the insufficiently armed defenders of this heroic city liberated the entire area of this municipality in August and September 1992, writes Faktor.
Imamović was killed on 9 October 1995 in a battle fought on Rogojska greda, on the slopes of Treskavica, as part of the final battles waged by the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina to break the siege and connect Sarajevo and Goražde. He was buried in the courtyard of the Alipašina Mosque in Sarajevo.
He was posthumously awarded the highest war decoration of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the "Golden Lily", and in his honour, the barracks of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Pazarić also bears the name "Zaim Imamović".
