At least 100 North Korean soldiers killed in fighting in Ukraine

(Patria) - At least 100 North Koreans were killed in December fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine, a South Korean lawmaker said yesterday, with similar information coming from Kyiv and Washington.

- In December, they took part in actual combat in which at least 100 were killed - lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun claimed, speaking about North Korean units, after a briefing by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) for lawmakers in Seoul.

"The NIS also said that the number of wounded (among North Korean soldiers) could be nearly 1,000," Seong-kweun added.

According to him, information indicates that some, including high-ranking officers, were killed in Ukrainian missile and drone strikes and in accidents during exercises.

According to the NIS, the high number of casualties can be explained by the unfamiliar terrain where North Korean forces are used for sacrificial frontline attacks and by their inability to counter drone attacks.

It is added that the Russian military complains that North Korean soldiers, due to their unfamiliarity with drones, are more of a burden than a benefit.

Several thousand North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia in recent weeks. At least that is what the West claims, while the Kremlin does not want to confirm this information.
