Public destruction of 1,536 collected and seized weapons in Banja Luka today

(Patria) - The public destruction of 1,536 weapons and weapon parts collected and seized by BiH police agencies - the Border Police of BiH, SIPA, the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska, nine cantonal Ministries of Interior, and the Brčko District Police - will be organized today at the Jelšingrad foundry in Banja Luka.

The weapon destruction operation is organized by the Coordination Board for Small Arms and Light Weapons Control in BiH, in cooperation with the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (UNDP SEESAC).

Technical support was provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in BiH, and financial support by the European Union through the project "Support for Strengthening the Fight against Illegal Possession, Misuse and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Western Balkans".

The goal is to draw attention to the dangers that surplus weapons, as well as poorly secured and illegally possessed weapons, pose to the daily safety of all citizens.

The problem of circulation and illegal proliferation of weapons in Southeast Europe knows no borders and requires a coordinated regional response.

The program of the weapon destruction operation at the Jelšingrad foundry (Braće Podgornika Street 8, Banja Luka) starts at 11:00 AM.
