
(Patria) - During 2026, 467 police officers will retire from three state police agencies. Most in the rank of police officer. Although various numbers were speculated in recent months, official answers have arrived from SIPA, DKPT, and the BiH Border Police.
The fewest are leaving SIPA, 53, and some have already retired, then from DKPT 133, and the most from the BiH Border Police, a total of 281 police officers.
Regarding the national structure, out of 467 individuals, the majority are Bosniaks, numbering 351, followed by Serbs with 85, and Croats with 31 across all three agencies. The largest number are in the Border Police, and out of 281 police officers, as many as 221 are Bosniaks, 42 Serbs, and 18 Croats.
The largest number of Bosniaks are also retiring from DKPT, with 95, along with 30 Serbs and 8 Croats. The situation in SIPA is as follows: 35 Bosniaks, 13 Serbs, and 5 Croats are retiring.
MP Aida Baručija requested answers from these three agencies regarding the number of systematized positions and unfilled positions by rank, but answers have only been received from two agencies.
According to the systematization, SIPA should have 955 employees, and the upper limit set by the Council of Ministers of BiH is 789 employees. However, SIPA does not currently have that number of employees.
SIPA confirmed that as of 09.02.2026, the following positions are unfilled: four chief inspectors, four independent inspectors, eight senior inspectors, 31 inspectors, 13 junior inspectors, 15 senior sergeants, 27 sergeants, 43 senior police officers, 25 police officers. And here is the structure as of 09.02.2026. Two chief inspector positions are being reduced (Edin Malkić retired on 28.02.2026, and Vahidin Šahinpašić is moving to the position of FUP Deputy Director). However, the director of SIPA, Darko Ćulum, refuses to announce internal competitions to fill these positions.

Regarding DKPT, the number of systematized positions is 1,268, and the upper limit is 877.
In DKPT, 450 positions are unfilled: 341 police officers, 31 senior police officers, 17 sergeants, 4 senior sergeants, 20 junior inspectors, 15 inspectors, 11 senior inspectors, 8 independent inspectors, 3 chief inspectors.
During 2026, 49 police officers who are undergoing training at the Agency for Education of Cadres are expected to start their employment in DKPT, including 22 Bosniaks, 18 Serbs, and 9 Croats. Answers from the other two agencies have not yet been received.
