Tourist centers Blagaj and Malo Polje near Mostar are full of garbage, although hundreds of tourists visit the Blagaj Tekke every day, as well as the swimming area, picnic area, and grounds for camping and recreation located nearby, writes the Patria News Agency.
Citizens complain that the city authorities are doing nothing to solve this problem, and that there are not enough containers for waste disposal in the immediate vicinity of Blagaj.
Rijad Durkić, a member of the City Board of Our Party in Mostar, said that residents of these settlements have to drive up to three kilometers further if they want to dispose of waste in a container.
- It is unacceptable that the City of Mostar, with five or six – the founder probably doesn't even know exactly how many utility companies it has – leaves such a large area without garbage containers - said Durkić. He reminded that the southeastern part of Mostar is unjustly neglected. For capital expenditures from the city budget this year, only 0.25% of the total funds were allocated for this city area, writes NAP.
The entire city of Mostar has huge problems with waste disposal. After the city landfill "Uborak" D.D. filled its capacity, and next to it the illegally built landfill "Deponija" d.o.o., Mostar residents are left without a proper landfill, and for several years now, city waste has threatened to cause an ecological disaster in the city on the Neretva River, writes NAP.
