(Patria) - The political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina greatly affects its path to the European Union.
Milorad Dodik has been convicted before the Court of BiH and his mandate as President of the RS has been revoked. However, he still cannot come to terms with this fact and uses everything to undermine the security situation in our country.
European laws await adoption, and Dodik and his SNSD are blocking everything that can be blocked. On this and other current topics, in the show '7plus' on Hayat Television last night, the Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, Sead Turčalo, spoke.
- In the case of BiH, when it comes to foreign policy goals, it is about targeting multiple targets. Essentially, fulfilling BiH's foreign policy goals is difficult because we have this kind of false movement.
We had euphoria when we received the green light for candidate status, and today we have nothing. We agreed to laws that are not in line with the EU acquis - says Turčalo.
At the last session of the Council of Peoples of the RS NA, the proposal of the Bosniak Club regarding the veto was not accepted. Turčalo believes that this BiH entity body is merely an extended arm of the ruling party, showing that alliance is more important than any right.
- This is not protection of collective rights. It is an extended arm of the ruling party in the RS entity. In this case, we have the Serb Club, led by SNSD and its other coalition partners, and the Croat Club, led by HDZ, which are indicators that the issue of alliance is more important than the issue of rights - emphasizes Turčalo.
He believes that HDZ and SNSD function perfectly when it comes to undermining and attacking the state of BiH.
An appeal to the Constitutional Court of BiH is expected regarding the holding of a referendum on the Court of BiH's verdict against Dodik. Turčalo believes that the referendums announced by the ruling party are used only to mobilize the population in an attempt to portray BiH as an authoritarian regime.
- The outcome should be expected, that the appeal will be accepted because it is an unconstitutional move. The court has so far shown that it largely maintains its integrity. We have had many cases where decisions were not implemented.
The announced referendum is not a legal method of struggle or an expression of popular will. It is an attempt to portray BiH as an authoritarian regime where some people can overturn court decisions.
At the same time, we have seen, when it comes to the ruling elite, the referendum is a matter of mobility and shows the vulnerability of institutions, from which much could be learned. Slowing down these processes will not help BiH - says Turčalo.
A boycott of elections in the RS entity, he continues, is possible only if no one votes, because otherwise Dodik will lose power. Turčalo reminds that the RS entity has so far implemented every threat if the international community allowed it.
- A boycott of elections can only work if no one participates in them. If the elections are conducted in any way, it will be Dodik's loss of power. I am not sure that this boycott will actually happen.
Much will depend on what happens on October 25. Because so far, the ruling party in the RS has implemented every threat if they had international support or if the international community came to meet them or tried to appease them - assesses Turčalo.
He also emphasizes that Dodik has only one chance left to retain as much power as he has, adding that he is seeking guarantees within the international community.
- Dodik is aware that his end is near and he is fighting, if nothing else, to remain the president of SNSD. Also, he is seeking a guarantee within the international community that the processes in which he is involved in corruption will not be implemented - concluded Turčalo.
