Tunnel "1. mart" is an example of how to build BiH

Ensad Karić, director of JP Autoceste FBiH, stated that with the completion of the second, most demanding phase of works on the "1. mart" tunnel, located on Corridor 5C section from Kakanj towards Zenica, Bosnian and Herzegovinian construction workers have gained a reference that allows them to appear at any construction tender in the region and beyond, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Karić said that during the construction of this tunnel, he was particularly pleased that the 300 workers engaged in the project did not just act as workers, but built the tunnel with their hearts.
 

- The Federal Government's move to award the construction of this tunnel to BiH construction workers, after a series of problems with Slovenian companies initially engaged in its construction, turned out to be the right move. Our construction workers not only completed the works on time and with quality, but they did it two months ahead of the contracted deadline – said Karić, explaining that the construction of the "1. mart" tunnel should not be seen only as a construction undertaking, but as proof that BiH has educated and capable people, and the tunnel should be an example of how BiH is built.

The end of the second phase of works on the "1. mart" tunnel, which will shorten and facilitate road communication between two important economic cities in BiH, Sarajevo and Zenica, was officially marked with a ceremony yesterday.

This is the longest and most modern tunnel in BiH. Its opening to traffic is expected by June this year. The interior of the "1. mart" tunnel will be illuminated with special LED lighting, and it will be fully covered by video surveillance that will detect even the smallest problem in the tunnel.

- Tunnel construction is one of the most complicated construction undertakings. However, BiH construction workers have shown that they can respond to these extremely demanding projects as well – Karić told NAP.
