(Patria) - President Donald Trump said he might travel to Egypt this weekend as his negotiators try to reach a deal on Gaza hostages for a ceasefire, Reuters reported.
Trump told reporters at the White House that a deal was "very close" and that he might travel to the region on Saturday. He spoke after meeting with his negotiating team. Negotiators have been meeting in Egypt to try to reach a deal.
As Trump was holding the event, Secretary of State Marco Rubio entered the room and handed Trump a note. Trump read it and then described what the note said.
"I just got a message from the Secretary of State that we are very close to a deal in the Middle East and that they will need it pretty quickly," Trump said.
He said he would likely go either before the hostages are released or shortly after.
Trump concluded his participation in the White House event by saying, "I have to go now and try to solve some problems in the Middle East."
