Trump: We are still negotiating a deal on Greenland

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump stated that deals regarding Greenland are still being negotiated and that the details of the so-called "framework for a future deal" are still largely unknown.

In an interview with Fox News Business from Davos, Trump said that the negotiations are currently focused on elaborating the details.

"It is being negotiated right now, the details are still being worked out," Trump said, adding that the deal would provide the US with "full access," without a time limit. "There is no end, there is no time limit," he asserted.

The US President also said that he does not intend to pay anything for Greenland, which further raises the question of how he envisions gaining control over the island.

Trump has long advocated for Greenland's annexation by the United States and has threatened to impose tariffs on countries that oppose it, not ruling out the possibility of using force. He withdrew from tariff threats after announcing yesterday, following talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, that a "framework for a future deal" had been reached.

NATO, however, stated that the issue of Greenland's sovereignty was not discussed at that meeting. Rutte said that efforts related to Arctic security would be intensified and that negotiations between Denmark, Greenland, and the United States would continue.
