Trojka on Schmidt's Resignation: Ćudić Turns to the EU, Nikšić is Silent, Konaković Sought Support for OHR's Continuation in Brussels

(Patria) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Elmedin Konaković, has been silent for the second day regarding the resignation of the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, a move that has caused his coalition partners from Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik and his associates, to rejoice and announce new times.

Although he is in Brussels attending an informal meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of EU member states and Western Balkan countries, there is not a single word about Schmidt on social media, the favorite communication channel of the head of People and Justice and the BiH diplomacy, nor about the meetings in Brussels. This indicates that he learned about the resignation from the media on Sunday evening.

In the late afternoon, a statement arrived from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH stating that Konaković emphasized the importance of continuous international support for the Dayton Peace Agreement, the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the institutions responsible for their preservation, ahead of the United Nations Security Council debate on Bosnia and Herzegovina, when the High Representative's report is expected to be presented.

"He warned that the current political context in BiH, including the election year, carries additional risks due to inflammatory rhetoric and the challenging of the constitutional order, which is why preserving stability, legal certainty, and institutional continuity is of particular importance. In this context, he pointed out the significance of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) as one of the key mechanisms for preserving peace, stability, and the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. He called on the European Union member states to actively engage in protecting the integrity and capacity of the OHR, as well as in the process of appointing a new High Representative, emphasizing the special responsibility of the member states of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC Steering Board). He added that in the current geopolitical circumstances, a clear and unified commitment from the international community to continue supporting the OHR and its role is of particular importance," the statement reads.

There is no information about this meeting in Brussels on the official channels of the Ministry, and the last post is about participation in the Sandžak Forum on May 7, as well as on his official Facebook profile.

It was precisely Schmidt's intervention in the Constitution of the Federation of BiH in April 2023 that led to the formation of the government of the Trojka parties (SDP, NIP, Our Party) with HDZ in the Federation of BiH, which is why the silence of Konaković and Nermin Nikšić, as direct beneficiaries of the highest political positions after Schmidt's interventions, is surprising.

The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, who will address the UN Security Council tomorrow where Schmidt's six-month report on BiH will be presented, is also silent. According to information, he too was taken by surprise by the news of Schmidt's resignation.

Our Party states that BiH's future lies in the European Union, while just a few months ago they were rushing to meetings at the US Embassy regarding the Southern Interconnection.

However, as in some previous cases, this time there was a lack of a joint stance from the Trojka parties regarding the developments at the OHR, as well as the possible scenarios that will follow in the coming days.
