Swimming coach Evelin Avdić from the Swimming Club "Sporttime" warned that swimmers must shower before entering a lake, river, sea, or pool, or at least wet themselves around the heart.
Avdić told the Patria News Agency that the cause of drowning in 99% of cases is the stress the body experiences after a person enters the water when heated, and only a small percentage of drownings are due to poor swimming ability.
- Statistics say that drownings most often occur during the hottest part of the day. The body is then heated, so if we just jump into the water, the organism can experience shock. That is, muscle cramps or cardiac arrest occur. Drowning then occurs even for experienced swimmers, said Avdić, adding that those who do not know how to swim never go deep enough to drown due to the water depth.
A 23-year-old young man drowned today at Boračko Lake near Konjic. Friends say he just disappeared underwater, and by the time they pulled him out, it was too late, reports NAP.
