TANK WITH FIVE SPECIAL FORCES MEMBERS Agreement signed for the construction of a memorial to Bosnian special forces in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Omer Osmanović signed today with the Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, and representatives of the "Bosna" Police Detachment Veterans' Association the Agreement on the realization of the project for the construction of a memorial to Bosnian special forces.

As previously announced, the construction is planned at the location of the park near the Second Gymnasium in Sarajevo. The Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton will co-finance the mentioned project with 200,000 KM, for the needs of carrying out construction works.

According to Minister Osmanović, this is a project that will permanently testify to the bravery of Bosnian special forces.

"Today, we jointly formalized the start of the construction of the memorial to Bosnian special forces, a monument whose construction we have been waiting for for many years. Despite many resistances, I can say with satisfaction that the conceptual design is moving into realization in the coming period, so that we finally get a monumental monument to the resistance of a nation. I would like to thank primarily the Mayor Benjamina Karić, who recognized the importance of building this memorial, and made all her available capacities available. The culture of remembrance is a segment we are very proud of, and as a proud member of the 'Bosna' Police Detachment veterans, this project has a special place in my mandate. We are certainly making ourselves available in the coming period as well, for the continuation of the dynamics of carrying out the works," said Minister Osmanović.

"Extremely respecting the huge, immeasurable contribution of the 'Bosna' Police Detachment and all members of this elite unit who gave their lives and health for the defense of the city of Sarajevo and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, such a project should have been realized earlier," explained Mayor Karić.

On this occasion, she thanked everyone who supported the construction of the memorial to Bosnian special forces with their funds, with the conviction that the exceptional cooperation will continue in the coming period.

The memorial is in the shape of a destroyed tank of the aggressor army with the figures of five Bosnian special forces members who captured it, which is the conceptual design of academic artist and former soldier of the Army of RBiH Nebojša Šerić Šoba. The "Bosna" Police Detachment had 1,350 members, of whom 81 tragically lost their lives during the aggression against our homeland.
