Serbia will soon get a new political alliance. Parties of Boris Tadić and Čedomir Jovanović say that talks about a joint political platform have progressed, reports the Patria News Agency.
They will soon present a serious political program to the public, as they state.
Boris Tadić and Čedomir Jovanović could once again be in the same political bloc. SDS and LDP are discussing a political platform that will be the basis for the unification of the two parties.
-We have made significant progress in this endeavor and we hope to present a serious political program to the public soon, which will offer answers to the most important questions for our society at this moment, says Nenad Milić, deputy president of LDP.
The idea of a broad political alliance that would bring together all those who want to be an alternative to the government comes from Boris Tadić, SDS states. That party sees itself as the headquarters for gathering.
-We are convinced that SDS and Boris Tadić are the points that have the greatest support among the citizens of Serbia when it comes to the opposition. We are one of the few parliamentary parties on the Serbian political scene. We have a leader who enjoys the greatest respect among all opposition politicians in this country, says Konstantin Samofalov from SDS.
Some analysts estimate that such an alliance is made out of the need for both parties to survive on the political scene.
-The issue of the threshold is secondary, and I don't see citizens benefiting from parties that have gone from five or six percent to crossing the threshold, points out Nenad Milić.
DS says they do not fear a potential coalition of SDS and LDP because those parties cannot be their coalition partners.
-Parties that say Vučić should be given a chance and who praise his moves every few days are neither opposition nor can they be our partners. This means we have not talked to them. We have partners with whom we cooperate, says Bojan Pajtić, leader of DS.
Serbia expects regular provincial and local elections, and whether extraordinary parliamentary elections will be called depends on the decision of the ruling SNS, reports B92.
