Coffins with remains of 30 genocide victims arrived in Potočari

(Patria) - A convoy with the remains of thirty victims of the genocide in Srebrenica from July 1995 arrived in Potočari this afternoon.

The convoy, let us recall, briefly stopped today in front of the building of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where citizens and a certain number of political officials were gathered. Among them was the High Representative in BiH Christian Schmidt, who emphasized that today, as well as everything that will follow on Tuesday in Srebrenica – is proof of why it is important to be responsible.

At the collective funeral on July 11th in the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, the remains of 30 genocide victims will be buried this year. The youngest victim is Elvir Salčinović, who was killed at the age of 15.

Although identified in 2011, his family did not gather the strength to bury Elvir until this year. He will find his final resting place next to his father Turabija and brother Almir, who were buried in Potočari in 2003 and 2011, respectively. The remains of his brother Senad are still being searched for.

Among the victims to be buried this year will be four minors. In addition to Elvir, two 16-year-olds, Mustafa Mekanić and Esed Klempić, will also be buried. Their remains were exhumed in 2001 from various locations in the Glogova and Kamenica areas. They were also identified in earlier years – 2008 and 2013, respectively, but we only received consent for their burial now, N1 reports.

Another minor will find his final resting place, Semir Đozić. He was 17 years old when he was killed, and his remains were exhumed in 2002.

Nezir Muminović is the oldest victim of the genocide in Srebrenica to be buried this year. He was 65 years old at the time of his death, and his remains were exhumed in the Kamenica area in 2007.

This year, a father and son – Vejsil and Hasib Mujanović – will also be buried.

The Government of the Federation of BiH has passed a Decision declaring July 11, 2023, as a Day of Mourning in the Federation of BiH.

The Peace March is also being attended by several thousand people this year, and their arrival in Potočari is expected tomorrow afternoon.
