The president of the Swiss Socialist Party demanded today that Switzerland freeze payments to Hungary under the agreement with the EU "due to the human rights situation in that country and the refugee scandal", reports the Patria news agency.
Payments to Hungary "should be frozen", said Christian Levrat for SonntagsBlick. Until Hungarian Prime Minister "Viktor Orban begins to respect human rights, Switzerland should stop payments to Hungary", Levrat said.
Instead of Hungary, that money should be directed to organizations that help refugees. Levrat also believes that the chaos on the so-called "Balkan route" was largely caused by Hungary. He also believes that Switzerland should increase its capacity to accept refugees. Switzerland has always been "generous" in such situations, he says, reports Index.
