(Patria) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sevlid Hurtić stated that the Salakovac Refugee Reception Centre in Mostar, which operates under the jurisdiction of
this ministry, will place all its capacities at the disposal for the urgent and temporary
accommodation of citizens whose residential buildings are endangered due to continuous and heavy rainfall
that has affected the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton region.
This decision comes after the Civil Protection and Firefighting Administration of HNK issued an
emergency warning due to the Bune river overflowing its banks, caused by a sudden rise in water levels due to prolonged rains. Flooding of certain areas has already been recorded on the ground, while there is a serious danger of further endangering residential,
auxiliary, and infrastructural facilities.
Minister Hurtić emphasized that caring for people's safety, protecting human dignity, and
ensuring adequate accommodation in emergency circumstances are among the key tasks of the
Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH.
“In situations like this, when people's homes are directly threatened, institutions must
react quickly and decisively. The Salakovac Refugee Reception Centre has the capacity, logistics,
and experience to provide safety and temporary accommodation to all who need it,”
Hurtić stated.
Competent civil protection services are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and acting in accordance with
valid protection and rescue plans, while citizens living along the course of the Bune river are being urged to exercise increased caution, monitor official announcements, and strictly adhere to the instructions of the competent institutions.
Institutions at all levels of government remain on alert, and the development of the situation will depend
on further weather conditions and the amount of precipitation in the coming days.
