Tomorrow is a Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton in Memory of 1,601 Killed Children of Besieged Sarajevo

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton reminds the public that in 2023 they declared May 5 – the Day of Remembrance for the Killed Children of Sarajevo – as a Day of Mourning in Sarajevo Canton, with the aim of permanently preserving the memory of 1,601 children killed during the siege of Sarajevo in the period from 1992 to 1995.

On this day, flags will be lowered to half-mast on buildings of institutions of Sarajevo Canton, as well as on facilities of public enterprises and institutions.

Media are recommended to adjust their programming content to mark the Day of Mourning, while avoiding broadcasting entertainment content.

We call on all citizens to remember our youngest fellow citizens who were killed with due respect and reverence, to show solidarity with the families of the victims, and through their conduct to contribute to the dignified observance of this day.
