(Patria) - The High Court in Podgorica today sentenced Slobodan Peković to 20 years in prison for crimes committed in 1992 in the Foča area, Detektor confirmed with the court. Peković (formerly Slobodan Ćurčić) was tried in Podgorica for the murder of two civilians of Bosniak nationality and rape in Foča.
- Today, the verdict was announced in the High Court in Podgorica, by which the accused P.S. was found guilty of the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The accused was remanded in custody after the announcement of the verdict - the Court stated in its response to Detektor.
The Special Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro had previously taken over the case from Bosnia and Herzegovina and filed an indictment. Peković was arrested in Danilovgrad, near Podgorica, in October 2021, on the order of the Special State Prosecutor's Office of Montenegro. An indictment was filed against him in the same month.
The indictment accuses him of killing two civilians of Bosniak nationality by shooting them with a firearm during the attack on the village of Hum in the Foča area in 1992, after which their bodies were burned.
- He is also accused of participating with other persons in the rape and sexual abuse of women and girls of Bosniak nationality, and of personally committing the rape of one person, the Prosecutor's Office announced earlier.
The High Court in Podgorica has not yet published the verdict on its website.
