The Old Town of Visoki was first officially mentioned 660 years ago, did the Kotromanići know about the pyramids?

The Old Town of Visoki, below which archaeologist Semir Osmanagić is currently searching for the largest and oldest pyramids in the world, was first mentioned in official documents 660 years ago. On September 1, 1355, the Old Town of Visoki was mentioned in a charter by the young ban Tvrtko I. Kotromanić, under the name "in castro nosto Visoka vocatum".

The Old Town of Visoki would become an early center of the Bosnian Banate, and later the kingdom, and six and a half centuries later, this place would come into the center of world attention when researcher Osmanagić announced that beneath the Old Town of Visoki, as well as beneath the surrounding hills, lie some of the largest and oldest pyramids in the world. Visoko has also become known as the Bosnian Valley of Pyramids.

The Old Town of Visoki is a well-known medieval town and fortress that was built during the 14th century on Visočica hill. At its foot, and at the foot of Visočica, the city of Visoko is located today.

In the second half of the 11th century, the Bosnian bishopric and its seat civitas Bosna are mentioned, and the seat of the Bosnian bishopric was precisely in the Visoko Valley and its cathedrals, where the heads of the church hierarchy, as well as high dignitaries of the Bosnian Church, resided.
By the end of the 12th century, Kulin Ban built a church in Biskupić, while in Moštre (a place near Visoko) in the mid-14th century, there was a royal court for a time, and all public affairs of the Bosnian Church were conducted in Moštre.

If we consider the fact that Miles (present-day Arnautovići) was the venue for assemblies, a Franciscan monastery, and between 1377 and 1461, the coronation site of Bosnian kings, it is not difficult to conclude that the Visoko Valley with the Old Town of Visoki, Podvisoki, Miles, and Moštre was the early center of the Bosnian Banate, and later the kingdom.

The Old Town of Visoki is situated in a prominent location with an excellent view of the entire surroundings. The access is on the southwest side, from a plain that is 60 meters lower, and the lower town of the fortress and the city was called Podvisoki. Although historically important, the Old Town of Visoki was not large in size, about 60 m long and about 25 m wide, it had two towers that protected it along its entire length.

The primary function of the Old Town of Visoki was defensive, but it was also a place from which Bosnian rulers wrote many charters and documents.

Today, the Old Town of Visoki is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Bosnian Pyramids, especially the tunnels located within them, are visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world today, and the world's largest television and news agencies have filmed documentary programs about this phenomenon, which could change many views on history that have been held until today, writes NAP.
