Širokača residents angry at PM Uk: He would extinguish fires in Montenegro, but Curine njive have never been remediated

(Patria) - In the past few days, we witnessed a fire that affected Montenegro, and regarding which the Government of Sarajevo Canton, led by Prime Minister Nihad Uk, sent a letter to the Ambassador of Montenegro to BiH expressing regret over the difficult situation and offering assistance. The KS Government, as part of the international assistance mechanism, has made fire units, equipment, and machinery available for the remediation of fire consequences in Montenegro.

Residents of the Širokača local community are asking: why have the KS Prime Minister and competent institutions not initiated a complete and urgent remediation of the landslide at the Curine njive site, but only so-called "emergency measures" were taken, which proved inadequate? After the completion of these measures, cracks appeared in residential units in the Ablakovina and Ablakovina Čikma streets, further endangering the safety of our fellow citizens.

"While citizens of the Stari Grad municipality, and especially residents of the Širokača local community, have been waiting for a year for the complete remediation of the landslide that threatens their homes and lives, the KS Government is providing assistance outside the borders of BiH, while the domestic problem remains unresolved.

We call on the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, the Government of the Federation of BiH, the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, the Civil Protection of KS and FBiH, as well as the Republican Civil Protection, to urgently expedite the procedure and begin the complete remediation of the landslide at Curine njive – before it is too late. With the arrival of autumn and winter, the risk of new rainfall and snow increases, which can cause further soil movement. Many residents of the Širokača local community have not been evacuated from their homes and live in fear every day," the statement reads.

The Širokača local community council has repeatedly warned the competent institutions about the need for urgent action to prevent further damage to facilities and endangerment of residents' lives.

"We are aware of the seriousness of the situation and the challenges you are facing. Our readiness to help stems from the long-standing good and friendly relations we cultivate with Montenegro. Sarajevo Canton, as part of the international assistance mechanism, has made its fire units and firefighting equipment available to support firefighting and remediation of consequences," said Uk, while expecting Širokača to descend to the building from which he writes Facebook statuses.
