Condition still serious: Bullet lodged in Pero Gudelj's head

Bosnian businessman Pero Gudelj (60) from the village of Gornja Večerska in Vitez, owner of the FIS retail chain, who was found on Monday around 1:30 PM with a wound to the temple near Vitez, is still in the intensive care unit of the Neurosurgery Clinic in Sarajevo and is in life-threatening condition, reports the Patria news agency.

- The condition is still serious, Gudelj is under constant medical supervision and we cannot say he is out of danger, said Muamera Šehić, spokesperson for the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo.

According to her, information about the treatment method, surgical procedure, and the extent of injuries sustained cannot be disclosed to the public in accordance with patient protection. Gudelj survived a suicide attempt because the bullet did not penetrate deeply into the head, as he fired at an angle.

Doctors performed a surgical procedure on the wound, which was seven centimeters deep, and the operation, which lasted nearly seven hours, was, they say, successfully carried out, and the patient is currently in serious but stable condition.

As Večernji list unofficially learns, despite the multi-hour surgical procedure, the fired 9 mm caliber bullet from a so-called 'long nine' pistol is still lodged in Pero Gudelj's head. It is highly likely that removing the bullet could cause additional damage and further complicate the condition, so this was abandoned.
