What if elections for the President of Republika Srpska are called but cannot be held - Source from the CEC for NAP: That would be a disgrace!

(Patria) - The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina should call early elections for the President of Republika Srpska in the coming days, after Milorad Dodik today definitively lost that position.

According to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically its Article 14.3, early elections will be held within a period of at least 30 and at most 90 days from the dissolution of the elected body, i.e., the termination of the mandate in accordance with the Constitution and law.

And the calling of early elections, according to a source of the Novinska agencija Patria (NAP) in the CEC, should happen in the coming days. A session of the CEC Collegium, otherwise closed to the public, is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 AM, where, among other things, this will be discussed.

- We will probably put the story about early elections on the table tomorrow, to see what and how, whether we have the funds, whether we are ready, whether there are obstructions... So we will sum everything up and subtract, but unfortunately we don't have much time because deadlines are approaching.

Simply put, that decision should be made very quickly if there really are no special reasons. But I don't think there will be any, since we have come this far. Of course, in all of this, we also need the support of the international community - the source told us on condition of anonymity.

In his address at a press conference after losing the mandate of the President of Republika Srpska, Dodik, among other things, said that "there will be no elections for the President of Republika Srpska, one way or another." And if we recall, a little earlier he also announced that, if necessary, he would engage the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska to prevent the opening of polling stations.

We asked our interlocutor - does the CEC of Bosnia and Herzegovina have mechanisms to conduct early elections for the President of Republika Srpska?

- We must also consider the security aspect of the elections. Of course, it is easiest to make a decision to call elections, but imagine - we make a decision and then cannot implement it - then it's our disgrace! Simply, we need to consider everything, we must have some guarantees that we can see it through to the end.

I don't know tomorrow how the members of municipal commissions or perhaps polling boards will act. So far, they have been legal and legitimate, and I think they would implement our decision, just as they have been correct so far. But these are still some new conditions, so it will certainly take a few days to consider all the factors important for holding the elections.

So, municipal election commissions, polling boards, the international community, financial resources, the security aspect... All of that needs to be put into one context to see if we will proceed with it. Again, I say, 99 percent we will, but let's see, maybe there are some things we ourselves don't know - this source adds.
