The Military Court in Arnhem decided on Wednesday that retired Dutch army general and former commander of the Dutch UN Battalion Thom Karremans will not be prosecuted for genocide in Srebrenica, reports the Patria News Agency.
Karremans will not be prosecuted for command responsibility during the genocide in Srebrenica, meaning he will not be held criminally liable for the murdered Bosniaks in eastern Bosnia. And, shortly before that, Karremans also received support on Facebook.
A Facebook group called "Support Page for Thom Karremans" quickly gathered a large number of likes. Dutch people are massively supporting Karremans. Comments from some members of this battalion are also visible on the page, and some have called to gather in front of the Military Court and not to let journalists' questions provoke them.
Former UN interpreter Hasan Nuhanović, who filed the criminal complaint against Karremans, told the BH News Agency Patria that there is a theoretical possibility to appeal the Arnhem Court's decision to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, but he is unsure of his next steps.
