36 years ago, on April 5, 1979, Basketball Club Bosna achieved a historic victory over Italian Emerson in Grenoble, France, becoming European champions for the first time, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
In front of 12,000 fans, the popular "Students" celebrated a great victory with a score of 96:93. This was the greatest achievement of Yugoslavian basketball at the time, and it remains the greatest achievement of BiH basketball to this day.
The roster of the champion generation: Delibašić, Varajić, Vučević, Benaček, Đogić, Bosiočić, Izić, Radovanović, Hadžić, Pešić. The coach of this brilliant generation was the legendary Bogdan Boša Tanjević. Varajić scored 45 points and Delibašić scored 30 points in that game.
This generation was written in golden letters in both Yugoslavian and European basketball. In the next four years, Bosna won two more Yugoslavian championship titles – in the 1979/80 and 1982/83 seasons.
Last year, due to accumulated financial problems and debts, KK Bosna changed its name to KK Bosna Royal, which caused numerous controversies among basketball fans and this legendary club.
