SARAJEVO, (Patria) - For the first time since the war, the Vraca Memorial Park shone in its full glory last night. Public utility companies Rad, Park, and Elektrodistribucija Sarajevo have completely changed the appearance of this, until recently, abandoned and neglected "pearl" near the city center, by connecting night lighting, and cleaning and arranging its surroundings.
"This historical, cultural, artistic, and one of Sarajevo's greatest tourist potentials is coming back to life. The Sarajevo War Theatre has the honor of performing the cult play Ay Carmela in the Fortress, under the open sky," stated Milan Trivić, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo.
As part of the celebration of Europe Day and victory over fascism, the capital city is promoting a new cultural space. Due to bad weather, the performance scheduled for last night, organized by the City of Sarajevo and SARTR, has been postponed to next Wednesday, May 22, at 9 PM.
"The Fortress is a natural setting for this theatrical piece. Although we have been performing it for 20 years, this will be a special experience, something that has not been seen before. We have designed special lighting for the central part of the Memorial Park and the Fortress, so that the audience, on their way to the 'open-air theatre', will actually enter the atmosphere of the play," said Damir Fazlagić, technical manager of SARTR.
Vraca Memorial Park is a resource of inestimable value, occupying an area of 61,000 square meters, and the Fortress has 3,000 square meters, with indoor and outdoor space suitable for various cultural and social events.
