(Patria) - A Falcon rocket of the American company SpaceX was launched from the historic Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral in Florida. This is a historic event considering that this is the first launch of a human crew by SpaceX and that NASA is sending people into space from American soil for the first time in 9 years.
This opens a new chapter in space flights tonight, at least when it comes to launching people into orbit. This is the first time that NASA astronauts are being launched by a private space company, Elon Musk's SpaceX.
The Falcon 9 rocket carried the Crew Dragon capsule into orbit, carrying experienced astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken. They are expected to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) after a 19-hour flight, where they will spend just over three months.
NASA had previously announced that the risk of this mission not being successful was estimated at 1:60, which is within the acceptable limits for such a demanding undertaking.
