The Bosnian homeless football team is one step away from advancing to the second round of the World Cup being held in Scotland, where 24 teams will find their place, the top three from each of the 8 groups.
Yesterday, our team played two matches. They lost on penalties to the host Scotland, despite leading 3-1 just 3 minutes before the end. In the second match, our team defeated Hong Kong 9-2, and all players scored in that match, reported from MFS – EMMAUS, under whose organization our homeless players traveled to Glasgow for the 14th World Cup in a row.
According to the tournament rules, the winner on penalties receives 2 points and the losing team 1 point. So BiH currently occupies 2nd place in the group with 7 points, and to advance to the second group stage, they need one more win from tomorrow's two matches. The first against Grenada starts at 13:00 h and is played on field 2, and the second against Egypt at 17:00 h on field 3. The top three teams from each of the 8 groups will advance to the second group stage of the World Cup. While lower-ranked teams will compete for positions 25 to 48.
- Yesterday was a special day for all of us. Our entire team wore black shirts with the inscription Never forget Srebrenica, and we took to the field dressed like that. Actually, four of our players survived the genocide in Srebrenica and were carried out as babies to free territory - said Elmedin Škrebo, the selector of our team.
