The Disciplinary Committee of Le Championnat has punished the Swedish international for, as stated in the official explanation, serious insults directed at referee Lionel Jaffredo and his assistants, reports the Patria news agency.
Zlatan Ibrahimović, after the match which PSG lost 2-3, insulted not only the referees but also the country where he plays, saying that "France is a sh... country that does not deserve to have PSG." His outburst was recorded by TV cameras, and the Swedish striker became the topic of the day.
The Swede soon apologized for his inappropriate conduct, but the local public was outraged. The far-right leader of the French National Front, Marine Le Pen, told Ibrahimović to leave the country, while the leader of the local Socialist Party, Jerome Guedj, described the PSG striker's words as completely unacceptable and insulting. The French Minister of Sports, Patrick Kanner, also reacted, calling on the Swedish striker to apologize.
The suspension takes effect on Monday, so Ibra is eligible to play in Saturday's League Cup final against Bastia.
Due to the suspension, he will miss league matches against Nice, Lille, Metz, and Nantes, and due to an earlier UEFA suspension for a red card against Chelsea, he will also miss the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Barcelona, which will be played on April 15 in Paris.
Seven rounds before the end of the championship, PSG leads with 62 points, Lyon is second with one point less, and Marseille is third with 57 points.
