(Patria) - Opening a private practice always carries a degree of uncertainty. However, when that step is taken during a personal struggle with disability, it becomes an act of courage. This is precisely the story of Ljubica Paradžik, a dentist and owner of a dental practice from Grude, who built her professional path relying on knowledge and perseverance.
Ljubica opened her dental practice at a time when she was already living with a disability. At that moment, she was not aware of the opportunities offered by the Fund for Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities, but a few years later, when she learned about its work, she decided to take an important step and apply. As she herself says, that decision significantly changed her professional daily life.
Today, her practice employs two other people, while she is the only person with a disability in the team. Through the Fund's support, Ms. Ljubica's contributions are refunded, which represents an important form of financial relief and stability. Additionally, twice a year, she applies for public calls from the Fund, thanks to which she acquires tools and materials that facilitate her daily work and adapt the work environment to her needs.
"That support means a lot to me. Not just financially, but psychologically too," she emphasizes. "You know you are not alone and that there is a system that recognizes and supports you."
She particularly highlights how much cooperation with the Fund has brought her a sense of security. In the period before that, concerns about possible sick leaves, surgeries, and temporary work interruptions were constantly present. Today, with the Fund's support, those concerns are significantly reduced. She coordinates planning health procedures with business obligations, knowing that there is a mechanism that helps her maintain work continuity.
Looking ahead, Ljubica is already planning to expand her practice and move to a larger space. In these plans, employing a person with a disability clearly has a place. To start, at the reception, with priority for candidates who meet professional criteria. This is, as she says, a natural continuation of her experience and understanding of how much an opportunity to work can mean.
From her own perspective, she sees employing persons with disabilities as a value, not a challenge. With adequate support, clearly defined measures, and understanding, the work environment becomes a space where everyone can make their full contribution.
Her message to other employers considering employing persons with disabilities or using the Fund's measures is clear. To get informed, apply, and utilize the existing support. "The Fund truly facilitates business and brings peace. It is a partnership that allows you to focus on work, not on fears," concludes Paradžik.
