Slovenian Prime Minister: It is not yet time to join the 'Committee for Peace' for Gaza

(Patria) - Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob stated today that it is not yet time for Slovenia to join the so-called Committee for Peace led by US President Donald Trump.

The main element that concerns him is that the Committee's mandate is too broad and could dangerously undermine the international order based on the UN Charter.

"The international order, in which the United Nations played a central role, has served Slovenia, the whole of Europe and beyond, so we have lived in peace for decades," Golob said.

He emphasized that the risk of dismantling the UN order is what is most worrying.

Golob added that in a broader context, "such a committee exceeds, on the one hand, the powers that would arise from a Security Council resolution, and on the other hand, it also exceeds what we would want as a sovereign state."

He stated that Slovenia would accept cooperation within a narrower mandate that would regulate the post-war reconstruction of Gaza and perhaps the West Bank.

He also announced that he will not attend the signing of the committee's founding charter in Davos tomorrow, but will meet with the leaders of other EU member states in Brussels in the evening.

As he said, he will seek unity and determination from all European countries to provide a common response in which the right to territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of borders, including in Greenland, will be paramount.

According to him, Slovenia, by sending two officers to Greenland, is also sending a message that it defends the fundamental principle of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.

"For Slovenia, there can be no other way than to support sovereignty and territorial integrity," he emphasized, reiterating the stance that Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.
